This Weeks Cover

Originally, we were going to run some photo taken by some photographer of some guy noone knew...blah blah blah. Running on the two themes I was given: "aids ribbon, death", I came up with the idea of the aids ribbon as a funerary wreath on a moody cemetery background. Much like below:

However, that was not quite doing it for them ( and I now agree, however I will be using this idea for an upcoming enome project.

So that all said, the actual ribbon created out of roses worked well enough. Once applied to a new design, I think, works very well.

Naked City Weeklies.

To my pleasure, a rumor that has been circling for quite some time, has recently materialized. I now have a weekly illustration section in the paper's Naked City section. Every week around thursday, all I receive is a word or a subject heading, and I am allowed to create what I want from that. I have decided that these illustrations should be more an exercise: Fast, loose, and varied. The writer seems to appreciate the collage style more, but its out of his hands. That is, unless he completely hates it. We all answer to someone eventually, I guess. These are the four I have done so far.

Critical vomit

I was recently asked to create a new header for one of our online blogs, Critical Mass, which would begin a new style for the headers from now until it gets old. I think I was just trying to gross people out. Originally the splatter was red, then vomit-green. It could always be worse.

Halloween Art Show!

I recently was asked to be a part of a limited Halloween showing at the gallery space of my local comic shop. This spot hosts a variety of monthly "First Friday" shows in conjunction with The Autumn Society, a collection of Philly Illustrators and artists.

I was asked a little bit at the last minute, after the head of the collective, after he had scene my most recent cover piece (below). Becaus of this I only had a title ready, which was "All These Negative Bastards Can Go Straight to Hell", but soon had an idea involving the pumpkin-headed parental figure squiring his horrified-fying? young protege around on all Hallows eve.
