Brand New Bullstuff!

This is what happens, when at 4:00 someone drops an idea on my desk they cant quite get their head around. Aka, an experimental ad, something perhaps to bring some new money.

What was needed was an ad that showed an ad bursting through a previous page, somehow. Amidst discussion, I suggested (without thinking) "BURNING!". Of course everyone liked the idea and I was set loose to assemble this amorphous creation. After a few ponderous seconds, I realized I needed a lighter, and was soon setting fire to many printed pages. After an hour or so of "frankenstein-ing" burned morsels and ash, this is what I got.

Three Cheers Finals.

Here are a few finished spreads from my book Three Cheers to the End of Things.

As of right now, this is the cover design I am using. As always, the job is subject to change right up until final print.

Recent Rigamarole.

Two quick recent illustrations.

1: The Indian Bus girl. She's a girl, she's indian, she's trying to pick a bus. My instructions exactly.

2: The "El-Dwellers". This was supposed to be a weekly installment series of local Philadelphia "folklore". This installment focused on homeless inhabitants of abandoned underground L-train tracks, or "El-dwellers". Somehow, somewhere in the process, the series was delayed or cancelled. Either way, I have not heard of any new installments. Its a shame really, I was looking foreward to drawing the "Pied-Pipers of Walnut St"

Ahh,crap!

So, due to its popularity among the writers I have been working with, I have continued on with a certain style to my most recent illustrations. Im not certain what has influenced me to first try it out, but I can best describe it as "ugly cartoon". Example:

This is a recent illustration about Beanie Siegel. In case you don't know him, he is a philadelphia-born rapper who likes yo drink cough syrup after he takes his percocets. In any case, its a bit of a mustardy (?) feeling, crumpled mess. I like it (maybe) and it goes over well with the client. But I think Im done with it. I believe I will try, at least, to move a little closer to the quality I think I get in my more personal work, while retaining some of the comedy. Which, in these news stories, is usually needed.
